🇧🇩 শুভ বিজয় দিবস 🇧🇩

Bangladesh Victory Day is a powerful reminder of the nation’s long journey toward freedom, honoring the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who fought for independence in 1971. Beyond its historical importance, the day represents the preservation of language, culture, and identity that are deeply rooted in the Bangladeshi people. It is a moment to reflect on the past while celebrating the strength and unity that continue to shape the nation today.
At BIPA, Bangladesh Victory Day holds special meaning, especially with the role that the arts play in preserving our history. Through thoughtfully created performances in music, dance, and storytelling, BIPA has consistently created spaces that highlight the cultural richness of Bangladesh while educating younger generations about its significance. These shows not only honor the legacy of independence but also reinforce the importance of cultural pride, remembrance, and community connection through artistic expression.

Weekly Bangalee, Vol. 35
November has been an incredibly eventful and meaningful one for BIPA, highlighted by Dhrupodi: A Night of Classical Performance, an evening that celebrated the richness and beauty of classical dance. The program brought together the elegance of Manipuri, thoughtfully choreographed by Sanjib Bhattacharya and Jagannath Lairenjam, the storytelling of Kathak, choreographed by Hasan Ishtiaque Imran and the precision of Bharatanatyam choreographed by Taseen Ferdous, creating a powerful fusion of tradition, rhythm, and expression on one stage.
We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our students, teachers, parents who gave all their efforts and hard work to make this show a success. Special Thank You To All our Volunteers, Stage Mangers, Light, Sound, and Video Coordinators For Supporting Us each step of the way!

Today, we proudly honor Kathak Guru S.M Hasan Ishtiaque Imran, whose unwavering dedication has shaped and inspired our BIPA dance community for the past five years. Despite living in Bangladesh, Imran has continued to teach with extraordinary commitment—showing up consistently over Zoom, sharing his artistry, discipline, and deep knowledge of Kathak with every student he guides.
His passion has allowed BIPA dancers not only to learn authentically, but to grow with confidence under his mentorship. We are also grateful that he has had the opportunity to visit New York and perform with BIPA twice, each time bringing a vibrant energy and elegance that enriches our entire community.
In this year’s Dhrupodi showcase, we are honored to present a special plaque to Hasan Ishtiaque Imran as a symbol of our appreciation. This recognition reflects his true devotion, tireless effort, and the love he pours into every class and performance.
Imran, thank you for your commitment, your patience, and the artistry you continue to share across continents. Your impact reaches far beyond the screen and into the hearts of all your students.
WORKSHOPS: A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR ALL

This past month, BIPA had the honor of hosting a series of enriching workshops led by renowned artists from the global Bengali arts community. Each session brought something uniquely valuable to our students and members, strengthening our commitment to cultural education and artistic excellence.
Kathak Workshop with Shibli Mohammed & Nipa
Over two immersive days, legendary Kathak duo Shibli Mohammed and Nipa guided participants through the grace, rhythm, and discipline of classical Kathak. Their detailed instruction and inspiring demonstrations gave students a deeper understanding of footwork, expression, and storytelling in this timeless dance form. It was a rare opportunity to learn directly from two of the most respected Kathak artists of our time.
Vocal Training with Muttalib Biswas
BIPA proudly welcomed Muttalib Biswas for an exceptional workshop on vocal techniques and musical expression. His session focused on voice projection, breath control, and the emotional depth required to elevate every performance. Participants praised the workshop for its clarity, warmth, and transformative impact on their singing practice.
Recitation with Bhaswar Bandhopadhay
Celebrated artist Bhaswar Bandhopadhay conducted an inspiring recitation workshop, blending technique with the art of emotive storytelling. Attendees learned how to deliver poetry with power, nuance, and authenticity. His charismatic teaching style reminded everyone why spoken word remains such a vital part of Bengali culture.
Together, these workshops created a vibrant space for learning, community, and creativity at BIPA. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the instructors and participants who made these events a success. We look forward to bringing more opportunities for artistic growth in the coming months!

As the year comes to an end, we are incredibly proud of all our BIPA students and parents for their continued dedication, hard work, and meaningful contributions to the BIPA community. Through dance, music, and performance, we have continued to celebrate and preserve the richness of Bangladeshi culture, honoring our traditions while passing them on to the next generation. This has truly been a wonderful year, made possible by the passion, support, and commitment of our families, and we look ahead with excitement for what’s to come.
